New Student and Sophomore Programs is excited to announce that SOPHOMORE WEEK 2012 is quickly approaching on November 12-16, 2012. This year's schedule is quickly filling with exciting events that are targeted for second year students and focus on topics ranging from getting a co-op/internships to getting involved on campus to just doing something fun with your fellow sophomores. See below for the full schedule of events:
| Monday, Nov. 12 | Getting Involved in NSSP (FASET and Wreck Camp) New Student and Sophomore Programs 12-1 p.m., Student Center 319 Ever thought about getting involved with orientation or camp? Then come listen to professionals and students from New Student and Sophomore Programs talk about FASET Orientation and Wreck Camp and how to get involved with these awesome summer opportunities. MD/PhD: Is It Right For Me? Pre-Health Advising, Research and Fellowships 6-7 p.m., Clough Lounge 205 Love research? Love medicine? Wondering what it means to combine both areas of interest? This session will cover what an MD/PhD entails and will connect you with opportunities to be competitive for these programs. |
| Tuesday, Nov. 13 | Turkey Tabling Sophomore Leadership Council 11-1 p.m., Tech Walkway Come meet the Sophomore Leadership Council and take your picture with the our turkey cutout! We'll also have all the supplies that you might need to make your very own hand turkey. So, take a break from studying, and come get your turkey on with SLC! STEM Women Coffee Talk Women's Resource Center and Women in Engineering 3-4 p.m., Clough Commons Lounge Women in Engineering (WIE) and the Women's Resource Center (WRC) are excited to host this Coffee Talk Series for undergraduate and graduate women majoring in STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The series will be held in the Clough Commons Lounge (Room 205 next to the Starbucks). Dr. Pam Bhatti will be joining us to share her professional stories and personal advice. Coffee, tea and dessert will be provided so please plan to stop by for a few moments or the entire hour. We hope to see you for coffee talk! Get Your GAMES On: Tips for Self-Regulated Learning This workshop will provide students with an assessment of current study strategies, and then follow with tips on how to become self-regulated learners. | Thursday, Nov. 15 | Stress Management: A Mind-Body Approach to Stress Reduction Georgia Tech Counseling Center 11 a.m.-noon, Klaus Conference Room 1315 During this interactive workshop, students will learn successful strategies to increase physical and mental relaxation, decrease stress, and enhance overall physical and mental well-being. Specific skills that can be used prior to stressful situations, such as exams, will be taught and practiced. Cover Letter Workshop Division of Professional Practice 11 a.m.-noon, Student Success Center Clary Theater Please join the Division of Professional Practice for a workshop on cover letters! Cover letters are an essential part of the job/internship/co-op application process. They are often overlooked or avoided, yet give you an edge over the competition. Come learn the art and secrets of cover letter writing to be a success in your job search. Fall Festival Sophomore Leadership Council 3-5 p.m., Campanile Green Come join SLC for a fun Fall Festival for sophomores! We will have some great carnival games, blow-up bounce houses, and some light refreshments all for free! GT Ambassadors Information Session The GT Ambassadors is a wonderful leadership opportunity available to upperclassmen students at Tech.
